Creative Comprehension Course

Creative Comprehension goes beyond simple reading comprehension. It is designed to train students to respond to texts using imagination and creative thinking. This skill forms the foundation for literary analysis and creative writing required in secondary-level English and in higher-level courses such as GCSE, A-Level, and IB.

✅ Who Is This Course For? (Max 7 students)

• Current Year 6 students who will enter Year 7 in September 2025

• Year 7 students who wish to improve their comprehension skills

✅ Why Is This Important?

At the secondary level and beyond, students are expected to develop:

• Logical reasoning

• Essay writing skills

• Tone and style analysis

• Creative interpretation

These are also key components of the 13+ Common Entrance exam and various scholarship assessments in the UK, where creative comprehension is a commonly tested area.

✅ Core Skills Developed Through This Course

• Deep comprehension (understanding character emotions and motivations)

• Style analysis (recognising tone and narrative voice)

• Writing skills (structure, grammar, and vocabulary improvement)

• Text-based creativity (imaginative thinking grounded in the text)

✅ Example Task Types Covered in the Course

• Rewriting a scene from another character’s perspective
  e.g. Rewrite this scene from the viewpoint of a different character.

• Continuing the story in the same narrative style
  e.g. Write what happens next, keeping the original author’s tone and style.

• Writing a diary entry or letter as a character
  e.g. Write a diary entry the main character might write after this event.

• Writing an internal monologue or dialogue
  e.g. Create a monologue where the character explains their actions.

We work with self-employed tutors who run our courses. All tutors are qualified teachers with excellent references and hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate, registered with the Update Service. Tutors will contact clients directly to discuss course details, including homework.
